Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 FE with One UI 5.1 (Android 13) and promised to offer it four major OS upgrades. The brand has already released three, with the device now running on One UI 8.5 (Android 16 QPR2). It means that the phone is eligible to get one more major OS update, which should be One UI 9.0 (Android 17), and now, the company has started developing it for the phone.
A firmware file for the Galaxy S23 FE featuring One UI 9.0 has been spotted on Samsung’s server for the first time (via Tarun Vats). It suggests that the brand has started working on releasing the new Android skin for its 2023 Fan Edition phone.
Samsung unveiled One UI 9.0 in May and released its beta version for the Galaxy S26. According to multiple reports, the brand will showcase its stable version for the first time this month with its upcoming foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. Soon after that, the company should start rolling it out to older devices.
Based on Android 17, One UI 9.0 offers more customisation options for Quick Panel, new features for Game Booster, Samsung DeX, and Samsung Notes, a location privacy indicator, and enhancements as well as new features for many accessibility functions.
